Project Success Story

Remote Rig Move

Going Remote

In the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of 4D Nav's key clients requested that the company assist with relocating a rig. Due to the pandemic restrictions, 4D Nav faced the challenge of moving the rig remotely without mobilizing personnel to the rig for installation and commissioning.

An Advanced solution to a complex challenge

To move the rig remotely, 4D Nav's team of surveyors and engineers collaborated with the client's team to locate GPS antenna mounts with complete provenance.

Under the direction of 4D Nav, rig personnel were able to install antennas and interface sensors before connecting the vessel's VSAT to the NavView remote system. Once this was complete, 4D Nav's team was able to use the NavView to access pertinent project data and connect to the rig's remote system to direct personnel throughout the move.

Providing training and guidance

As the project began, 4D Nav's team worked with rig personnel remotely to familiarize them with NavView displays and functionality. 4D Nav also provided full-scale support and quality control throughout the project.

A successful move

The collaboration between 4D Nav and the client's rig personnel led to the successful execution of the remote rig move. This remote rig move equipment remains in place today, and the team at 4D Nav continues to provide this client with additional support and remote rig move guidance.
